GENERAL EDUCATION

In the 2016/2017 school year, Colégio Rainha Dona Leonor opened the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education on a private basis.

On entering the 2nd Cycle, parents can opt for regular education, dance or music.

The 2nd Cycle of Basic Education is a cycle of change, and Colégio Rainha Dona Leonor's priority is to develop students' autonomy and responsibility, helping them to create mechanisms that help them manage their time and study, as in the case of the Study Room sessions. The teacher-student relationship is one of Colégio Rainha Dona Leonor's strengths and this reality becomes evident as early as the 2nd Cycle, with the entire Class Council being concerned with setting academic and interpersonal goals in each class, evaluating and readjusting strategies at each mid-term and assessment meeting. Students are invited to learn outside the classroom by going on curricular study visits and participating in activities that allow them to mobilise previously acquired content and skills or develop new ones.

The matrix includes the complementary offer of Emotional Education, part of the Mind Yourself project, and, in the 19/20 school year, Art First, part of the Skills 4.0 project, was implemented in 5th grade. These courses have their own programmes and seek to work on personal and interpersonal development, based on Mindfulness principles, in the case of the first subject, and to develop the English language through Art, Heritage and Culture, in the case of the second. In order to work on Education for Active Citizenship, the matrix also includes the subject of Citizenship and Development, with project work methodology, which explores various themes: Interculturality, Sustainable Development and Environmental Education, Road Safety, Human Rights and Gender Equality, Health and Sexuality.

In conjunction with teaching activities, Colégio Rainha Dona Leonor offers supplementary curricular activities in various areas of knowledge and know-how, with in-house and external teachers who work closely with the teachers on the class council.
